Healthcare Informatics

Healthcare informatics is more than charting a patient’s vital signs. It is a multi-layered system involving people, processes, procedures, tools, and systems that all revolve around information technology and healthcare. It is tracking a patient from the moment he or she enters into a medical facility until they leave. Between the admitting and discharge of a patient are layers of technology and information. This course is intended to provide a clear overview of the industry of healthcare informatics.

The purpose of healthcare informatics is more than just the technology. Instead, it is the use of healthcare informatics to ensure the health of the patients, the vocation of the healthcare professional, and the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare process.
